Chris Tiemann is currently employed by Independence Group (IGO) in the role of Environment and Community Manager. He is responsible for developing strategic priorities in the environment and community space, coordinating mine closure planning, approvals and supporting their operations. Prior to that, Chris worked for Newcrest Mining in a number of corporate and operational roles in environment, sustainability and safety functions. Chris will soon begin a PhD in the field of mine closure to gain an understanding of policy positions for government and industry within Australia. Community expectations and values will also be established to identify potential improvements in mine closure policy and ultimately guide a nationwide approach to mine closure policy development.
